The next school year saw a slightly more relaxed and outgoing group don the title of JUNIOR CLASS. Frank Griscom
served as president, with Frank VanderVoort as vice-president, Sherre Adkins as secretary, and Janet Dickert as treasurer.
Surely you remember that our cheerleaders were Rebecca Batchelor, Patti Cummings, and Pam Paty. The girls
introduced a new gridiron sport called hallball to delighted-and stunned-football fans. Will you ever forget those two
adorable cheerleaders, Joe Estes and Steve Gregory, who added their unique touch to Brainerd's cheerleading history?
Of course, there was the excitement of the Clinic Bowl game in Nashville on Thanksgiving Day. Majorettes were
Terry Gray, Jackie Koch, Sherry Martin, and Sharon McKay. Sherry Landrum and Buster Irvin stole the show in Brainerd's
first musical, "The Wizard of Oz". And our Junior play, "We Shook the Family Tree", was presented in the spring.
Beth Harner and Anna Dalton were elected to Girls' State while Frank Grissom and Perry Pollard were our delegates
to Boys' State. The arrival of our class rings was one of the most exciting events of our years at Brainerd.
And the year was crowned by the Junior-Senior Prom, another Brainerd first.
Our Senior year was the busiest of all. We were surprised to find that we did not feel as "old" or "superior"
as we had imaged we would. Officers were: Frank Griscom as president, Perry Pollard as vice-president,
Sherre Adkins as secretary, and Janet Dickert as treasurer. Patti Cummings was Brainerd's head cheerleader.
Other Senior cheerleaders were Pam Paty, Rebecca Batchelor, Beth Harner, and Anna Dalton. The co-editors
of the Reveille were Frank Griscom and Phyllis Griffitts, while the Heritage staff was headed by
Cheryl Grant and Ginger Hughey.
